Rochas Okoroca, former governor of Imo state and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, is weighing the option of throwing the hat into the ring for the presidency in 2023. The former governor was on Monday, November 16, urged to vie for the 2023 presidential ticket by a group, Igbos for Rochas Movement 2023 Presidency (IRM).

During a visit to his home, IRM national coordinator Jeff Nwoha stated that the former governor’s resume, after careful deliberations with other leaders, fits the presidency.

Rochas Okorocha said he will “balance the unbalanced” if elected the president of Nigeria.

The group also posited that Okorocha was picked following his political background and philanthropic gestures.

While urging other intending aspirants from the zone to burry their ambition and join hands to make the president of Igbo extraction a reality, the group described Okorocha as a detribalised Nigerian.

Responding to the pleas, the former governor said he would contest after due consultation, promising to provide access to quality education and “balance the unbalance equation.” He said: “I’m aware when it comes to sharing of positions in the zone is not balanced, if I must run, I will balance the unbalance equation, if I must run I will make education affordable to the common man, if I must run, I will create wealth, looking at me I’m strong and capable.”

“I will run for the fourth time after due consultation, I have run for the first, second and third time, if I run I believe I have a lot to offer, so I’m most delighted and honoured for your group to pick interest in me.”

Meanwhile, Okorocha submitted that the escalation of the EndSARS protest into violence and wanton destruction of properties is because of “unfair leadership for a long time.”

Addressing newsmen in Abuja on Friday, October 23, he noted that the government has been “selfish in handling the affairs of this country.

” While noting that the protest is a wakeup call to the Nigerian leaders, the senior lawmaker stated that people in the position of authority must rise to their responsibilities to ensure that such future occurrences never happen again.
